Board of European Students of Technology
Board of European Students of Technology, is a non-profit and non-political
organisation for students, by students. BEST was founded in March 1989
in Berlin as an answer to the need for an association to promote communication,
cooperation and exchange between students of technology throughout Europe.
Since then BEST has developed rapidly, both in number of members as well
as in number of projects.
BEST
connects students from 64 technical universities in 25 countries in a
network which is held together by common projects, common interests and
friendship. The official language of BEST is English.
From
the perspective of our (approx. 1600 ) members BEST can be seen as an
innovative factory, where students already before graduation have the
opportunity to accomplish large European-level projects that serve their
fellow students. Roughly half a million engineering students all over
Europe have the opportunity to take part in our activities.
BEST
strives to help European students of technology to become more internationally
minded, by reaching a better understanding of European cultures and developing
capacities to work on an international basis. This can only be fulfilled
by giving students of technology all over Europe the opportunity to meet
and learn from each other.
In
order to achieve our goals, we organise a variety of academic events such
as 1-2 weeks courses and international seminars, and other events such
as cultural exchanges, ski weeks, sailing meetings, internal meetings.
In
summary the public projects of BEST can be collected into three main areas
of interest: COMPLEMENTARY EDUCATION: the collection of all the learning
and leisure courses organised by BEST. It's the oldest and largest continuous
project of BEST. In 2003 approx. 6000 students applied to participate
in about 70 different (almost) free events arranged by BEST.
